My First Months at BIBUS METALS GmbH

My name is Anika Gerdes, I am 23 years old, and six months ago I started my apprenticeship at BIBUS METALS GmbH. In March 2025, I was invited for a trial day, and right afterwards I was offered the position. I didn’t have to think twice and immediately decided to begin my apprenticeship at BIBUS METALS GmbH. The working atmosphere here is very harmonious and appreciative. On my first day, I was warmly welcomed by everyone, and even as an apprentice, you instantly feel like a valued part of the team.

What is BIBUS METALS GmbH?

BIBUS METALS GmbH has been around for more than 30 years and is a leading supplier of high-performance materials. The company distributes and stocks premium sheets, bars, and pipes made of nickel and nickel-based alloys. BIBUS METALS is well known for its innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, as well as its outstanding training concept, which was awarded by AGAD e.V. in November 2024. The team is highly committed, and with the help of the newest technology, they set new standards for the metal industry.

I Will Begin My Interview with Mr. Klaus Bökels, Managing Director of BIBUS METALS GmbH

Do you enjoy being a Managing Director?
"Absolutely. I enjoy being a Managing Director because I like helping people develop further. Moreover, the development of our team is the foundation for long-term company success."

In the past, Klaus wanted to become a teacher, but due to an oversupply of teachers, this was not possible. However, he does not regret choosing a different path. He is grateful for his current position as Managing Director.

How would you describe your team?
"Our team is a good mix of people who are curious and open to change. These are qualities that are essential in a modern work environment and are characterized by a high level of competence."

Next, I Conducted My Interview with Ms. Susanne Zander, Executive Assistant

You are the Executive Assistant, but also responsible for the apprentices. What exactly are your areas of responsibility?
"My main focus is on marketing and human resources (HR). I organize fairs and handle articles that are published in professional journals. In addition, I support new employees and our apprentices during the onboarding process and, if necessary, also manage and coordinate offboarding measures."

Susanne also explains that all activities are carried out in close coordination with our Managing Director, Klaus Bökels. Furthermore, she ensures that all organizational processes at the Essen location run smoothly.

Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by all these tasks, or do you enjoy them?
"The variety of tasks brings a lot of diversity to my daily work and keeps me motivated. At the same time, there are situations where I rely on support – and I can always count on our entire team. I especially appreciate the help from our apprentices, who contribute greatly with their commitment and team spirit."
